The Lieutenant and the Flag
In medieval practice, a lieutenant would represent an individual, or later a corporate group, and would herald the presence of its owner, while the individual bearing the banner would later be given the same title as the banner itself, Lieutenant. The Lieutenant of Magnolia Lodge is truly a heraldic banner, derived from our arms, and fringed in the official colors of the Lodge, viz. white as the primary, green as the secondary and old gold as the accent metal. In its use, it indicates the presence of the Lodge, and should only be used at formal communications of the Lodge, or at official private or public functions where the Worshipful Master, or his representative in the Senior or Junior Warden, is present.
The Flag is a general device of the Lodge, and as opposed to the Lieutenant, several flags may be displayed at a site to identify the Lodge or its members. Members at their homes, or at other locations, may fly it to indicate their affiliation with Magnolia Lodge. It is modeled on the official flag of Kappa Alpha Order, substituting the crimson field for that of a green field, and the crimson cross of the Order for the stylized magnolia blossom used as the badge of Magnolia Lodge.
